This is Maria, founder of Email Marketing Concierge and mum of 2. Find out more about Maria and her business below:

Tell us about your business

I help event marketers and organisers take full advantage of their email marketing before, during, post event and especially the in between phase, when sending might feel quieter. I support teams in making a plan that takes into consideration the attendee experience before and during the event as well as the technical aspects of email marketing, such as healthy deliverability. I have been self-employed for 5+ years now and have been through many iterations of my business, with more to come no doubt.

What made you want to start your own business?

My original motivation for my business was to own my own time and not go back to corporate, so I explored different ways I could make that happen. With event email marketing now, I apply my almost a decade long hospitality experience with my email marketing expertise and helping people and organisations run better events by taking care of the thing that too often gets forgotten, the email comms. It is an essential part of the attendee experience, so should be given the love it deserves, especially in the world where email tech, regulations, and behaviour are changing so quickly.

How do you manage the juggle of running your business around being a mum?

When I work, I focus on the next most urgent thing always and a lot of nice to haves never get done but this way I focus on the things that drive results. I think: What's the most impactful thing for my business today that will move the needle forward? and so I do that. Less thinking about doing and worrying and a lot more actually doing.

What’s one thing you’ve learned in your business that you wish you’d known sooner?

It would be really hard to articulate to myself 5 years ago (because she knew nothing!) but it comes down to two things:

1. Do more things, not plan them, do them so that you can learn, adjust and adapt.

2. Networking and community - don't just sit at home thinking you can do it alone, you cannot. Go out!

What’s your go-to Founder Mum life hack that saves you time or sanity?

When work gets so busy I have to work many evenings and weekends, I don't stress out about it but know that it's temporary. It's a phase I'm in right now. Likewise with toddler sleep and behaviour, I often use the same mantra: "It's a phase it's a phase".

What are your core values when it comes to your business?

Enjoy my work, work with nice people, balance creative work with analytical, and challenge myself.

Why did you join the Founder Mums Club?

To connect with other mums in business and learn. It's such a supportive community!

What has been your biggest lesson and what's your advice for other Founder Mums?

My advice is to figure out how YOU best work by yourself as quickly as possible so you can be your own boss without looking for that guidance and accountability externally.
