Sunshine Follows You creates thoughtfully designed clothing for curious kids. Inspired by children's intuitive connection to nature, our characters embrace the magic, fun and adventures of childhood.
When did you start your business?
Less than 1 year ago.
What made you want to start your own business?
Our journey started with frustration over the limited options of grey and blue clothing for boys found in many stores. And believe it or not, not all boys like wolves and dinosaurs. We wanted colourful and joyful clothes that could be passed on to the next child, clothes cut neutrally for girls and boys.
Tell us about your kids?
Two rascals that keep me incredibly busy! A little girl who is 4 and a little boy who is 6.
How do you manage the juggle of running your business around being a mum?
I'm very luck to Co-Own Sunshine Follows You with my incredible sister Charlotte, who's so supportive of my constant mum juggle. I'm all about the lists and try to take time every Sunday to plan the week ahead.
What have been the high points of your business journey so far?
Receiving photos from client of their children wearing our clothes, it just lights us up from the inside, its so amazing see there happy faces.
What has been or is the biggest challenge in your journey as a Founder so far?
For us it's exposure, we are competing to be seen amongst some very big brands who have deep pockets. We heavily rely on grass roots marketing, so local pop ups, other mums sharing, and the support of our friends and family shouting about us.
Are you interested in collaborating with other Founder Mums?
Yes absolutely!
What are your core values when it comes to your business?
Positivity is so important to us and letting Children be Children. Our pieces are worn to express personality and style. Children's imaginations know no bounds, and their style has no limits. Our collection is bursting with vibrant colours, playful patterns, and funky designs that make every day an adventure for your little one. Slow fashion is at the heart of our designs. We encourage all items to be passed to the next ray of sunshine! We wanted clothes that could be past between families and friends, gender neutral cuts on our joggers, t-shirts, sweatshirts and shirt allow for this. We do not design pieces on current trends we design them for long term.
What marketing tactics have worked best for you?
Again grass roots marketing, so supporting local mum and baby pop ups, being part of small business markets, asking our friends and family to share our posts etc.
What are your future goals for your business?
To have a regular pipeline of work so that I can plan for the future.
And finally, what has been the biggest lesson for you since you started your business and what's your best bit of advice for other Founder Mums?
We would love to keep growing the business and adding additional pieces to the collection. A 'parent and mini' collection too with sweatshirts and t-shirts would be incredible. We cannot wait to have that moment when you are in a random location and see a child wearing one our pieces.
